Manuscript Critiques

WOTS provides an opportunity to have part of your manuscript reviewed by a professional author and instructor. Designed for both the novice and the published writer, a limited number of one-on-one manuscript critiques are by appointment with an additional non-refundable fee of $40 when you register for the conference (fee subject to change for 2018).


  • Appointments are limited to first come, first served, based on availability. A wait list is available once appointments are full.
  • Pay for your appointment with your registration. You will receive a call from the office to schedule your appointment time within one week of your registration. Calls will be made in the order of registrations received (all completed registrations have a time and date stamp).
  • If you have an appointment, the deadline to submit manuscript pages is end of August (2018 date "tba"). Writers whose manuscripts are not received by the deadline forfeit their appointment to someone on the wait list.
  • Appointments overlap with conference sessions. Attendees with appointments may miss part of a session.

  • No refund on manuscript critique fee.


Fiction and Nonfiction 

  • Limit one manuscript per person.
  • Pages must be double spaced, on 8.5 x 11" white paper with 1.25" margins on all sides, in a font size of 12 points.
  • No handwritten work.
  • Beginning Writers (committed writers who have not yet published and who may not be ready to submit for publication, but would like a professional opinion of their work): Submit 10 pages of a work-in-progress. On separate paper, include a short synopsis of the project and brief author biography.
  • Intermediate/Advanced Writers (for writers whose work is near publication and wish professional input to guide them closer to publication): Submit 10 pages for review. This will include: part of the first chapter starting at the beginning; a pitch for the book; concept statement (think back cover copy). On separate paper include a brief author biography.  



  • Submit all poems in one document, maximum 10 pages.
  • Submit 1 to 5 poems.
  • All forms of poetry are acceptable.
  • Include a brief author biography on a separate sheet of paper.
  • Pages must be single spaced, font size of 12 points, 1" margins on 8.5 x 11" paper.
  • No handwritten work.
